100 Masterpieces of Australian Painting

From the days of early settlement Australia’s artists have recorded the changing face of the continent. This volume presents one hundred of the best-loved and most famous works now housed in the state and national collections. The large, full-colour reproductions are arranged in chronological order, illustrating the development of Australian Painting and the influences of various movements from the early 1830’s to the present decade. Here are the paintings which form part of Australia’s heritage: the lively watercolours of the colonial artists Martens and Gill; the romantic ‘Golden Age’ landscapes of the Impressionists Roberts, Streeton, Condor and McCubbin; Heyson’s renowned watercolour tributes to the Australian eucalypt. Each late is accompanied by explanatory text which included an appreciation of the painting and a biographical note on the artist and his work.
