It was far from fair that Megan Henry was born with white skin and red hair. From the time she was young, growing up in outback Western Australia and immersed in the profound Aboriginal and Māori cultures of her small shearing town, she believed she had been born the wrong colour. Her skin just never felt right.

Her sense of belonging came at 17, when an unwavering true love beckoned Megan’s heart and she was lost to a talented Māori shearer, 23 years her senior. Catapulted into the colourful and consuming lifestyle of shearing, together they made a hardworking and formidable team.

Blinded by naïve youth, Megan fails to see that some loves must come at an unimaginable cost. Her delicate heart, her independence, her sanity were all called in to question as her relationship and her life manifest into unhealable pain. In her spiralling demise; anorexia, addiction and suicide became her saviour.
