Australians at War

As part of the commemorations to mark the Centenary of Federation, the Department of Veterans' Affairs has commissioned a documentary series for ABC Television and a companion book and website. This project celebrates and honours the Australian men and women who have served the nation in desperate times.

This companion volume to the TV series describes Australian involvement in 20th century conflicts from the Boer War to UN operations in East Timor. It focuses equally on civilian and military life, showing how the experience of war has profoundly shaped Australian society.

The compelling narrative works with a rich assortment of photos, maps and posters to tell a dramatic and moving story. Colour sections feature important examples of Australian war art. More than a retelling of battles and conflict, 'Australians At War' takes a journey deep into the emotional history of our nation.
