This novel traces a family's history from the northern coast of Ireland in the 1840s, where a young woman embraced a semi-conscious sailor, who had washed in with the tide, to Ontario, Canada. Jane Urquhart has also written The Whirlpool (winner of the Prix du Meilleur Live Etranger).
