Candid Enigma: The Artful Adventures of Andrew Hau Ewing

A critical biography of Andrew Hau Ewing (1964-2021), an Australian visual artist and curator who was a pioneering voice in challenging racist stereotypes of gay Asian identity.

The book includes chapters focusing on his banned Sydney Mardi Gras Festival public art, Reinscribing Skin (1997, a collaboration with Eugene Hoh) and on his extant notebooks (c.1993-c.2021) along with a tribute prose-poem by Keri Glastonbury and Virginia Barratt. The book's key writer is Maurice O'Riordan, a Darwin-based art historian and former editor of Art Monthly Australasia.
