Simplicity is the keynote of this comprehensive guide to the most commonly found and widely distributed Australian wildflowers.

The total of 384 plants illustrated and described in the book were chosen from Margaret Hodgson's collection of more than 1,000 different specimens because they may be found by the nature lover without great difficulty.

They grow in areas which are reasonably easy of access and in such places as picnic areas, National Parks and along roadsides. They include both natives and exotics.

To simplify identification, Margaret Hodgson has painted each flower or shrub in a stylised form which leads to quick recognition of specimens seen or collected in the field. She and her co-author have worked out an easily-followed method of describing each plant, and together with other details they give its botanical name common name, colour, size, habitat, and flowering season.

Such information is amplified by the extensive glossaries of botanical names and terms, the leaf descriptions which are illustrated by sketches, a map of wildflower areas, and indices of botanic and common names.

The combination of a clear text and easily identified illustrations makes this a most valuable book for theĀ  or student of Australian botany.
