Flora of the Sydney Region presents a comprehensive cover of the flora of the central coastal regions between Nowra and Newcastle to the adjacent Dividing Range, and is the recognised scientific work on the subject.
The area is one of the richest floristically in Australia, with both indigenous species and exotic species which have become naturalised during the years of white settlement.
Flora of the Sydney Region is a direct descendant of the Handbook of the Vascular Plants of the Sydney District and Blue Mountains, first. published privately in 1963.
The second edition, published in 1972, improved and updated the material and extended the area covered. This third edition provides a further revision and incorporates the results of the considerable research since carried out on the plants in this area, and the many new species discovered which were not known in 1972.
Brief descriptions of all the species are provided and the key lists those characteristics necessary to arrive at the correct specific name with the least trouble.
Line drawings and photographs offer additional aid to identification and the glossary, list of references and extensive index will be of great assistance to the reader.
This is a reprint, with alterations, of the completely revised 1982 edition that has become the standard work on the flora of this area. It will be welcomed by amateur and professional botanists, conser-vationists, bushwalkers and by universities and libraries.
