From Cable Street to 70 years of community resistance is the unique story of anti-fascism and anti-racism in Britain. It charts the battles in East London in the 1930s to the emerging Asian Youth Movements of the early 1980s, the Jewish-led opposition to the re-emergence of the fascists after the Second World War to the recent electoral contests in Oldham and Keighley today. It recounts how Rock Against Racism mobilized a generation against the National Front and local community organizations led the defeat of the BNP in East London in the early 1990s.
It is the history of our movement. It is a snapshot of the key events and people who have contributed to keep the excesses of racism and fascism at bay. These unsung heroes fought courageously often in the face of massive intimidation and violence.
This book is a tribute to all of those people who have been invovled in our struggle over the past 70 years and will hopefully act as an inspiration for the next generation of activists.
