Australia has the benefit of being sparsely settled. Most major cities are on the coast and vast areas of the country remain as National Parks or in good environmenta.
shape. These areas are available for any persor who wants to savour the sights, smells, tastes, sounds and images of the bush.

There are lots of different definitions of 'going bush' because Australia is a big country, with plenty of variety. Each area has something stimulating to offer. Whether it is the steamy jungles of Cape York, the snow-covered alps or the National Park on the edge of town, there is always something to see, learn and enjoy.

Many people are learning that there is more to lite than watching videos, playing with PCs and living on the lounge - couch potatoes are out in the 1990s. The bush offers a different kind of challenge to the daily ones we experience in our high-tech, city lives.

Physical requirements in the bush vary; the level of involvement can be geared to each individual's level of fitness. Some people may never leave their car, others will wear out many pairs of boots walking. Just being away trom the hustle and bustle of city lite is enough reward tor most people. What you actually do when you're in the bush is simply a bonus!

For most of us, the exercise, the hypnotic flicker of the campfire and the peaceful sleep in clean night air, are great rewards. These things recharge the batteries and help us face the peak-hour, the office and the modern slog of normal city life.
Don't worry, we are part of it too - we have real jobs and the same strengths and weaknesses as most other Australians. Writing this book may help other people to share, enjoy and respect the bush we love.

The bush is as close to you or as far away as you want to make it, so come along and have some fun.
