There are many different kinds of herbs. Broady, they may, be grouped into three main categories, which are, culinary, scented and medicinal.
Many herbs have a variety of uses, but for this book we have concentrated on culinary herbs which most people are able to grow and would like to have for everyday use in the kitchen, or tor making pertumed gitts.
Their medicinal use is also discussed for interesting historical knowledge and a selection of simple remedies is provided. There is also information about the cosmetic uses of herbs and their value in companion planting and repelling insects.
When planning to grow herbs, choose a place near the kitchen for convenience. They can be grown in a rockery, along a small pathway leading to a sundial or birdbath, or in their own formal garden, with set patterns dividing the beds.
Many different kinds of containers can be used to grow herb: in flats or units. First it must be remembered that herbs are not indoor plants and will not give their true fragrance without fresh air and some sunshine during the day.
