Kobbe's Complete Opera Book has had an assured place on the bookshelf of every
serious opera-lover since it first appeared over sixty years ago. It is the only book which
summarises the libretti of the world's operas, describes their music and gives the history of their performances within the compass of a single volume.

This completely redesigned and reset tenth edition has been extensively revised throughout. Accounts of twenty-nine more operas have been added and others have been completely rewritten. The additions include operas by Bellini, Verdi, Massenet and
Rimsky-Korsakov and no fewer than four by Handel.

Among modern composers there are pieces by Orff, Ullmann, Ligeti, Birtwistle, Martinůù, Sallinen, Glass, Marc Blitzstein, Oliver Knussen and others, as well as
