Lookout: Blue Mountains lookouts, through the artist's eye

LOOKOUT encapsulates my exploration and rediscovery of the natural landscape of the Blue Mountains from the time of the pandemic lockdowns.

During this period, I was able to explore my own backyard. I’m very fortunate that it is a World Heritage Site of vast valleys and gorges, sandstone escarpments lined with the blue haze of the eucalyptus.

I documented by sketching and photographing the scenery around me. This practice continued on after the pandemic, reconnecting me with the landscape I chose as my home.

I predominantly paint with watercolour and fine pen but for this adventure I wanted to experiment with a broad range of mediums. There are so many breathtaking lookouts here in the Blue Mountains and I have chosen some based on my personal favourites, for their interesting architectural aspect and others for what might suit that style and medium.
