At last a coin and banknote guide for both the beginner and the advanced collector looking for some fresh knowledge. This is the first reference to be compiled from field research' rather than the closed theoretical environment of an office.
The author undertook a three-year study of what the general collector wanted in a catalogue. This was achieved by conducting over 150 coin shows in four states. The result is a very refreshing approach to the science of numismatics. Many of the chapters relate to important aspects of the hobby which have never been discussed or fully explained.
Such topics include the impact on mintage figures for coins which have been subject to massive legal (and illegal) meltdowns; the growing trend to Non-Circulating Legal Tender (NCT); and the truth about the values of Commonwealth of Australia Decimal Banknotes.
As David L. Allen explains in the foreword to the book, this is the first time the critical aspect of investing in coins has been covered. Another highlight of the book is the extensive use of superb line drawings to illustrate the finer points of identifying mintmarks and varieties.
