Published in 1987 by Argus Books, this book proves that as an introduction to live steam construction, the two 3.5 in. gauge tank engines in this book are hard to beat.
The 0-6-0T Rob Roy has been a favourite choice since the 1950s and was the subject of an earlier book which, effectively, has now been combined with the 1982 William design, a slightly more advance 2-6-0T locomotive which has proved equally popular.
Each engine is treated separately in detailed constructional notes which leave not even the tiniest part unexplained; a complete beginner without contact with other model engineers could confidently tackle either or both of these locomotives, provided that he has a lathe and some experience of using it.
Complete drawings, reduced from the full-size plans which are available separately, are included, together with photographs of constructional stages and completed locomotives
