The Fables

Presents a selection of seventeenth-century fables famous for their impressive verse forms and their psychological insight in the original French text and in parallel English translations.

Some 139 of the best-loved fables of Jean de La Fontaine (1621-1695) are presented here in what is the definitive translation (by Elizur Wright), brought to life with the marvelous pen-and-ink drawings of Gustave Doré, taken from the original London edition of 1867. From 1975, this edition from Jupiter Books of London (first, thus), brings the fables & illustrations to a new audience, in 224 pages with an Introduction & Bibliographical Note in front.

Some very light foxing as pictured.
