They include the Alfred Jewel, the Benedictionals of St Æthelwold and Archbishop Robert ,the Exeter Book and the Beowulf manuscript.

An introduction explains the origins of this great cultural revival and the monastic reform movement which inspired it. The book ends with a look at the legacy of Anglo-Saxon art in the years after 1066. It is published to accompany the exhibition of Anglo-Saxon art at the British Museum
