History of the Sisters of the Good Samaritan, the first congregation of Catholic religious women founded in Australia.

Recounts its beginnings in 1857, when a group of five women set up a refuge for women and girls in a derelict former gaol in Pitt Street, Sydney, and its growth as an organisation committed to education in orphanages and schools. Includes photos, bibliography and index.

The author is a retired teacher who has had lifelong contact with the Good Samaritans.
