The Hanbury Gardens are in Liguria Italy and are a blend of cypresses sculptures fountains and avenues giving on to vistas.
They are as much a park as a botanical garden which combine scientific botanical and aesthetic roles.
The Hanbury gardens successfully combine different styles from different generations. From 1876 to 1912, Thomas and Daniel Hanbury used the natural landscape- ruins and all -- to create gardens divided into areas reflecting the interest of an academic botanist.
Cecil and Dorothy Hanbury used a more architectural approach from 1918 to 1938, creating a traditional 'landscaped' feel to the gardens. Now that cypresses have been planted, sculptures and fountains added and avenues opened, new vistas have been created a garden area of unique beauty and interest.
A must for anyone interested in gardening. 40 colour illustrations
