The Official History of the New South Wales Fire Brigade Employee's Union.

THE FIRE BRIGADE EMPLOYEES' UNION was born in 1910, an era when many important unions were established. Workers in Australia had come to realise that their only hope of achieving a better quality of life was joining together in an association representative of their common interests.

The Union continues to seek better conditions of employment and job satisfaction for it's members and advance the fire protection needs of the community. As one member says, 'We weren't a union that was ever sat on.'

This is the story of the Union as told by the officials and members themselves, by those intimately involved in it with a touch of analysis to make sense of the train of events.

Above all, The Red Brigade is a lasting record of the first 75 years of work and struggle undertaken by the Union and its members.
