The Upper Grose Valley is a wild playground. Keats and Fox are curious and articulate adventurers who seem to have explored every square metre from Lake Burragorang to the tip of the Wollemi. One of the results is this wonderful and extensive reference book about the upper Grose.

Half of the book is comprised of trip reports from exploratory walks. Detailed descriptions and grid references are given for each walk, allowing the reader to reconstruct the outings if they wish. The other half of the book provides a pleasing context, describing the flora and fauna and summarising the colonial, aboriginal and geological histories of the area. The glossary of place names and origins allows the uninitiated reader to decipher the thousand baffling words that bushwalkers love to bandy about.

Some obscure mountain passes are only mentioned in passing (e.g. Lews Pass), but this provides enough of a thread for the conscientious reader to continue researching online.
