When Christmas Bells Ring

Liverpool, 1939

Twins April and May Clarke live with their mother and grandmother in King Edward Court where they rule with a rod of iron. Naughty and wilful, they make everyone's lives difficult, especially Roy, a boy from the Court who wears an eye patch. But when war comes, the twins and Roy are evacuated, and their lives are changed forever. In contrast, sisters Cassandra and Vanessa, have a comfortable middle class life, until war tears their cosy world apart.

While Vanessa stays home to look after her parents, Cassie joins the forces and falls in love.
