Elizabeth Conabere's exquisite watercolour paintings of the unique wildflowers of south-cast Australia are not only beautiful, with charm, grace and delicacy, but botanically accurate in every detail.
Both the familiar and the rarely seen plants that she has illustrated were sought during wide-ranging travels and most often were painted where they grew - in mountain forests, inland deserts, riverine plains, coastal heaths and alpine herb fields of south-eastern Australia. However, many of the plants occur in congenial habitats throughout the continent.
Elizabeth Conabere has designed the 384 illustrations to form the 80 plates in this book to depict small and mainly herbaceous plants in natural associations and displayed to best advantage the flowers and their nuances of colour and textures, as well as the plants which bear them.
Each plate is accompanied by a description by J. Ros. Garnet in which he gives relevant information on the character of the species, on their distribution, and sometimes of their biology.
The detailed work by this botanical expert, coupled with Elizabeth Conabere's unsurpassed illustrations, form a collection of indisputable value.
