The Keewong mob make several visits to their homeland in remote western New South Wales.

For a couple its a place full of happy memories. For others its the first visit since their people were forcibly trucked away in 1933, or who left when work ran out. Having recorded Auntie Lizas memories, younger family members struggle to reconcile her stories of being a shy bush child with the confident articulate woman they know.

Everyone anticipates the journeys, and theyre all amazed and delighted that the plains country in spring is a beautiful landscape with belah trees, native cypress pines and mulgas. Conversations flow around camp fire. Theres laughter, questions about how to cook an emu, and who makes the best johnnycakes. Above all, theres talk about what it means to be an Aboriginal person today and in earlier times.
